Dix Hills FD Battles LIE Truck Fire At Exit 51

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a fully engulfed tractor-trailer fire on the Long Island Expressway, Thursday morning, May 5, 2016 at about 5:25 a.m. The fire occurred in the eastbound lanes between exit 51 (Deer Park Avenue) and exit 52 (Commack Road).  Four engines responded and firefighters had the blaze fully extinguished in about an hour, under the direction of Chief Robert Fling and First Assistant Chief Tom Napolitano.

The truck was loaded with goods destined for Costco. There were no injuries reported. At about 6 a.m., an accident occurred in the westbound lanes opposite the fire scene. An engine, ambulance and paramedic unit were dispatched and pregnant woman was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad. The eastbound lanes remained closed as NYS DOT crews worked with a payloader and trucks to remove debris from the roadway.
