Grant Lally and Steve Labate both claim to be conservative in their viewpoints. They both state they believe in lower taxes with less government. Both are looking forward for the chance to remove Steve Israel (D-Huntington) in the general election. Both Lally and Labate see Israel as out of touch with his constituents because he is spending too much time as Chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Some believe this is why Eric Cantor recently lost his primary. Israel is not on any Committees or sub-Committees to help out his 3rd district. The candidates feel this will hurt his re-election chances. The candidates believe Israel spends most of his time getting donations for the rest of the Congressional Democrats and not serving his constituents. At last review Israel’s campaign contributions had around 46% come from outside the district.
About the candidates:

STEVE LABATE:
Stephen Labate represents a new breed of candidates who are not career politicians but concerned citizens who are tired of the partisan politics of Washington. Stephen will use his extensive civilian experience in the financial services industry and his formidable military experience in the U.S. Army to offer common sense solutions, which will ensure a brighter future for the constituents of New York’s 3rd
Congressional District.
As a member of the Army Reserve, Stephen has been called to Active Duty three times since the attacks of 9/11. His most recent service was twelve months at the Pentagon as a member of the Army’s Crisis Action Team. While at the Pentagon, Stephen regularly participated in the creation of high-level briefings to the Secretary of the Army and the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. Stephen also served as a Force Protection Officer in one of the most heavily attacked installations in Northern Iraq. In that capacity, he initiated counter measures to protect the 23,000 soldiers and airmen from the ongoing myriad of threats to suicide bombers. Stephen also had the distinct honor to command the soldiers of the 306th Military Police Battalion (Det-5) for a year-long deployment from 2002-2003 in direct response to the terrorist attacks on 9/11. In 2009, at a Pentagon ceremony that was hosted by the Provost Marshal General of the Army, Stephen was promoted to his current rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Stephen earned a Certified Retirement Counselor designation from the International Foundation of Retirement Education and has worked as a financial planner for 15 years. In those years he has worked with clients in all aspects of financial and retirement planning. Stephen and his wife, Leticia, have been married twelve years and have twin eight-year olds.
Stephen swore an oath to “support and defend” the Constitution and it is that oath which he will carry to Washington as a member of the United States Congress. A change in leadership is needed, and your support will help him to VICTORY.

GRANT LALLY:
Grant Lally is an experienced and thoughtful leader, with a record of national Republican leadership and international accomplishment, who is bringing a record of conservative principles and fresh ideas to the North Shore of Long Island.
Grant has accomplished great things, working with the US, British and Irish governments to advance the Peace Process in Northern Ireland, working to disarm local armed militias, and moving Northern Ireland’s political leaders back to devolution and local rule. Grant was a critical participant in drafting President Bush’s foreign policy towards Ireland, and keeping the Irish Peace Process on top of the US foreign
policy agenda.
Grant has been a resident of the North Shore towns of Oyster Bay and Huntington for over 30 years, and has served as a Republican County Committee member for decades. He is the managing partner of a top ranked law firm on Long Island, successfully helping, representing and protecting thousands of local people. Grant has also brought his leadership in policy and foreign affairs to the publishing world, helping to start-up and contribute to the largest online daily news publication in the homeland security industry.
Grant is married to Deborah Misir. Before joining Grant in law practice, Deb, among other things, served as the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor, ethics attorney to President George Bush in the White House Counsel’s Office, and adjunct professor at the George Washington University Law School. She attended Marymount School in Manhattan, and graduated from the University of Chicago with BA and MA degrees, and the University of Minnesota Law School. Grant and Deb live in Lloyd Harbor, and feel blessed to enjoy family, friends and the beautiful outdoors here on Long Island.

Mr. Lally’s wife served as an ethics attorney to George Bush? That must have been a heck of a challenge! (remember his lies about weapons of mass destruction that didn’t exist in Iraq). How many of our brave military men and women were killed or injured over this phony reason to invade and conduct a poorly prosecuted and unnecessary war in Iraq?
Fact is, neither of these gentlemen will or should defeat Steve Israel who has been a great congressman and huge supporter of veteran’s in his district. (I am a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War with a minor disabiity).

Wall Street Journal:
Washington—Sunni extremists in Iraq have occupied what was once Saddam Hussein’s premier chemical-weapons production facility, a complex that still contains a stockpile of old weapons, State Department and other U.S. government officials said.
U.S. officials don’t believe the Sunni militants will be able to create a functional chemical weapon from the material. The weapons stockpiled at the Al Muthanna complex are old, contaminated and hard to move, officials said.

And your point is, Mr. Weiland? I can’t read the WSJ story because I’m not a subscriber. So the Sunni extremists have located a chemical weapons production facility. So what? You don’t think the U.S. intelligence didn’t know about this facility or that we knew Saddam had that capacity at one time (just ask the Kurds or Iranians who were victims). The issue is whether he was still producing them pre-invasion in 2003. However, the CIA and even Gen. Colin Powell regrets the false justification of the Iraq invasion and his 2003 speech to the United Nations.

My Point is there were WMD via these chemicals.
Quote from article:
“U.S. officials repeatedly emphasized the takeover of the chemical weapons stocks didn’t constitute a significant military gain by ISIS. The group, multiple officials said, would find the weapons militarily useless even if they were to get access to the sealed bunkers where they are stored. Officials said the group hasn’t yet gained access to those bunkers.
“The only people who would likely be harmed by these chemical materials would be the people who tried to use or move them,” said a military official.”

Even if that is true it doesn’t change the fact that Bush lied. And, frankly, even if there were WMD’s Iraq had nothing to do with the attacks on 9/11. The invasion of Iraq was still a wast of American blood and dollars (trillions) that could have been used for social programs, infrastructure repairs, universal health care and whatever else we need in America. The Iraq war, in my opinion, is one of America’s darkest hours, eclipsed only by our involvement in Vietnam.

Wundaboy you state Steve is a great congressman? Please describe your definition of great? Please name any Committees he is currently on? Where does he stand on the VA scandal? What has he done for the district?
Here is a quote from WSJ “There are only certain numbers that Rep. Steve Israel (D., N.Y), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, is comfortable talking about.
At a briefing with reporters Tuesday, the day after six states held primaries, the New York congressman boasted about the committee’s fundraising advantage in the last month ($3 million), the field staff it has deployed (98 people in 34 battleground districts) and the early grassroots efforts in those districts (123,000 door knocks, 300,000 calls and 9,018 volunteers.)”
My point is like Cantor, he is not working in his district he is concerned about raising money, not about his peeps. That’s it, I want someone in Washington representing the district, you should too. And this is not a democratic or republican issue.

Nicholas: Steve Israels positions on the VA scandal and his other many accomplishments are easily found by searching current and archival media.
Yes, I agree, it is unfortunate that members of congress must raise cash and run in an election every two years but that is the system.
While Mr. Lally and Mr. Labate are not professional politicians they would like to be and, to date, are only failed political candidates who have lost numerous past elections.
As a veteran myself I cerntainly appreciate Mr. Labate’s military service but that and his “oath to support and defend the constitution” is just meaningless patriotic verbage that you probably lifted from his bio. His limited experience as a financial planner and part-time military career were not enough to get him elected 2 years ago. I think he believes he should be elected because he is not Steve Israel.
With regard to Mr. Lally, again I think you used his own material for this article. Do we really care that he made some unverified contribution many years ago to peace in Ireland? And talk about being out of touch, isn’t he another rich lawyer who lives in Lloyd Harbor? Please don’t tell me the house (mansion) behind him in your photo is his personal residence. Pretty far from your working class peeps with children in Huntington Station trying to survive.
