Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,WF,I-Huntington Station) recently announced that the Town of Huntington will receive allocated funds to renovate the former 1950s Armory into a recreation and community center. The building will be renamed the James D. Conte Community Center as a tribute to the former Assemblyman of Huntington who passed away two years ago.
“This is a wonderful development for the Town of Huntington. The money for the renovations to the Armory will be a great way for young individuals in the community to stay fit and active while also providing them with a place to interact with the rest of the community,” said Lupinacci. “I am honored to follow in the footsteps of Mr. Conte and believe that a recreation center is the most appropriate way to give tribute to everything that he did for this community.”
The Town of Huntington received $1.5 million from the Empire State Development (ESD) grant program to renovate the Armory. ESD has several grant programs that offer $150 million of capital grant funding for the Regional Economic Development Council Initiative. The grants are accessible for regions across New York State for development projects intended to create or retain jobs, prevent or reduce unemployment or increase business or economic activity in a community.
