Ex Captain & 53 Year Member of the Huntington Fire Department Frank Berleth Passed Away at 87

FrankFrank Berleth, 87, of Huntington, NY died December 18, 2014. He passed away at Huntington Hospital after a short battle with Cardiac and Thoracic complications. His last days were made comfortable by Palliative treatment and by having his family by his side.

He is survived by his loving wife Liesel, their four children, Jeffery Berleth married to Barbara, Darryl Berleth, Lydia Simpson married to Steve Simpson and Monika Brown married to Jim Brown and his sister Frieda Novickis married to Gunars Novickis.

 He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Christopher Berleth, Katie Berleth, Matthew Simpson, Zackary Berleth, Maya Simpson, McKenzie Berleth and Maggie Berleth.

Frank with his father Jack and brother Henry started Jack Berleth & Sons Plumbing and Heating business in 1947 .  Throughout the years, Jack Berleth & Sons served many customers in the township of Huntington.  Frank worked hard at his business serving the community’s plumbing needs until retirement in 1994.  He also loved to go deer hunting at his place in the Catskills with his sons and friends.  Frank was a member of the Huntington Elks Lodge and the Huntington Baptist Church.

Frank Berleth had a long career in the Huntington Fire Department. Frank Berleth joined the Hook & Ladder Company on June 12,1961. Frank served as Lieutenant from 1966-1967 and Hook & Ladder Company Captain from 1968-1970. His fellow firefighters said “Frank has always been an asset to the Company and the Department in his duties and has also been known to cook a good meal. He was always available to give a hand to his fellow firefighter.” Frank served his community with pride and he served on various committees.

Services will be held Sunday, December 21, at Jacobsen’s Funeral Home, 1380 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, NY 11746,  631-423-2185.  Sunday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm with the Fire Department Service starting at 8 pm.  Monday December 22, 2014, the Funeral Service will start at 10:30 am followed by a burial at Pinelawn Cemetery,  2040 Wellwood Avenue, Farmingdale, NY 11735.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to the Huntington Fire Department or the Huntington Baptist Church.
