On Monday, December 29, 2014, at approximately 2:26 p.m. a man on a bicycle collided with an SUV in Huntington Station. The bicycle was heading down Fairground Avenue and the SUV was heading westbound on Pulaski.
The driver of the SUV and the car behind her who witnessed the accident, pulled off the road on Pulaski near All Weather Tires.
According to eye witnesses, a group of men that were congregating at the Las Delicias Deloriente Restaurant/Plaza Grocery shopping center who appeared quite angry stated that the woman ran the right light. Eye witnesses also stated that the group of men told the young man on the bicycle to lay on the ground until an ambulance arrived.
The man was observed walking over to the sidewalk but did eventually lay on the ground until he was taken away in an ambulance.
An off duty police officer witnessed the incident and stopped to see if anyone needed help and to give a statement to police.
The crowd of men were observed yelling at the female driver of the SUV who was visibly shaking and seemed afraid according to reporters on the scene. The off duty Police Officer was observed walking over to the group and telling them that they were incorrect and that the light was green. He stayed on the scene to give his version of what he witnessed.
It is common place for men to congregate in the parking lot of 74 E. Pulaski Road as well as other properties in the vicinity.
