New York State Travel Ban

  • Update:  Travel ban has been lifted in Long Island and NYC.

  • A travel ban on all state and local roads in thirteen downstate counties effective at 11:00PM
  • MTA closing all public transit systems at 11:00PM
  • The National Weather Service forecasts snow accumulation of at least 1 ½ to 2 feet combined with wind gusts of up to 70 MPH on Eastern parts of Long Island.
  • Tractor trailer ban on select roadways is in effect
  • The State’s Emergency Operations Center is activated
  • Travelers using airports to travel in the region should check with carriers before heading to the airport. Substantial flight cancellations are highly likely on Tuesday.

A state of emergency has been declared for the following counties:

  • Bronx
  • Dutchess
  • Kings
  • Nassau
  • New York
  • Orange
  • Putnam
  • Queens
  • Richmond
  • Rockland
  • Suffolk
  • Ulster
  • Westchester

Power

The National Weather Service expects wind gusts could reach up to 70 MPH. Utilities are prepared to respond 24-hours a day to power disruptions and mandated to implement their emergency response plans. New York’s utilities have a total of 3,943 in-house workers and outside contractors standing ready to assist in storm restoration efforts.

A travel ban will go into effect at 11:00PM until further notice
I-84, the Long Island Expressway, and the Thruway from Exit 17 to the New York City line, including on I-287 and I-95
A tractor trailer ban went into effect at 4:00PM and remains in effect until further notice
New York City Subways and Buses
Will operate only local service beginning at 8:00PM and service will be suspended beginning at 11:00PM until further notice
PATH Service will operate on a weekend schedule beginning at 9:00PM and be suspended at 11:00PM until further notice
