Fire Hydrants

By Steve Silverman

The Town of Huntington Fire Chiefs’ Council encourages residents to clear snow from fire hydrants near your home, which can help you and your neighbors in the event of a fire. With the recent snowstorms that have hit the area and more snow in the forecast, many fire hydrants have become buried in local neighborhoods which will be a problem for the fire department’s water supply should a fire occur. In a fire, seconds count and the sooner that firefighters can reach a hydrant, the quicker they can extinguish the fire.  Residents are advised to clear a three-foot radius around the hydrant and a clear path to the street, as shown on the diagram. The dedicated volunteer firefighters in the Town of Huntington thank you for your support!
