Huntington Resident Installed To Board Of Directors Of AFPLI

Cynthia Gorman 2The Association of Fundraising Professionals Long Island Chapter (www.afpli.org) is pleased to welcome Huntington resident Cynthia C. Gorman, RN, CFRE, as a new first-term member of the Board of Directors.  Cynthia was formally installed on January 20 at the Melville Marriott in a ceremony that took place during AFPLI’s monthly educational meeting.

Cynthia C. Gorman is the Vice President for Development at the Family Service League.  She has nearly twenty-five years of experience in development.   She served New York Institute of Technology as vice president for development, guiding the university through the launch of a capital campaign.  During her tenure, NYIT won several coveted CASE achievement awards for alumni relations programming.  She was associate vice president for development at Long Island University for over a decade, where she directed a $140 million capital campaign, supervised alumni relations and served as a member of the university relations senior management team on policy and strategy.  Under her leadership, endowed scholarships grew to $25 million and planned gifts to over $12 million.   She also worked for Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, creating the first fund raising program for the health care system’s North Division.

Inspired by the experience of caring for her husband Richard during his cancer journey, Cynthia graduated from nursing school in 2013, summa cum laude.  She worked for North Shore LIJ Manhasset as a critical care nurse in cardio-thoracic intensive care as part of the William Randolph Hearst fellowship program.

Cynthia decided to return to her roots in development following her husband’s death in 2014.

Cynthia earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Muhlenberg College (Allentown, PA), a Master of Arts degree from University of Warwick (Coventry, England), and a Bachelor of Science degree from Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, NY).  She is a Registered Nurse and a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).
