The Alfred Van Loen Gallery is pleased to present Sue Bird, Denise Kasof and Lili Maglione abstract expressionist artists. The exhibit will be on view from March 7 to April 1st 2015 with an artist‘s reception Saturday March 7 between 2-4pm. The authenticity of the work of the abstract expressionists resides in its directness and immediacy of expression, revealing through gesture the artist’s authentic identity. This exhibit displays 3 unique artist’s “signature”, the pure evidence of the process showing the painter or printmaker’s mind and hand.
Sue Bird describes herself as a process painter, beginning with no idea or goal. Working from action to reaction studying her work as it flows and emerges. Automatic gesture and improvisation with vibrant color and brushwork in Bird’s paintings show no restraint, allowing her to surrender to streams of conscienceness.
Bird has studied painting with Steve Lampasona, Kyle Blumenthal and Stan Brodsky all on Long Island. She is a former teacher and resides in Huntington.
Denise Kasof sets her work apart with the possibilities that printmaking offers over other methods of art. She is excited by the use of different techniques allowing her to communicate and express herself. In this particular series of work Kasof explores breaking realities. In one piece, there is a concentrated blue with a calligraphic black breaking in and resulting in a freewheeling energy forming a visual rhythm.
Kasof a fine art printmaker received critical acclaim and attention internationally in galleries and museums. Kasof’s prints are also collected in corporate and private collections.
Using a limited palette and applying thin paint layers Lili Maglione’s paintings flow like music or poetry. Her direct approach with using long and wide brush strokes often arouses beauty and freedom while evoking nature. Maglione creates the natural world from her personal observations and recreates them from her inner visions.
Maglione has exhibited in many universities, museums and galleries and is collected in corporate and private collections. Her work has also been published and she is an award winning artist.
