Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci announced he will co-sponsor three bills to address obstacles faced by military spouses in New York State. Military spouses have long struggled to acquire certain licenses to work after moving to New York State. Assembly Bills 3637, 2590, and 4394 were drafted to fix this injustice by allowing military spouses the right to practice their occupation with the approval of a designated licensing board.

“The state Senate has passed similar legislation and it’s time we seriously look at this issue,” said Lupinacci. “Military spouses who earn a good living in another state should not suffer because they move to New York and struggle to receive certification for licenses they’ve already qualified for in other states. New York should be a state of opportunity, and passing these bills would be a step in the right direction.”

Assembly Bill 2590 would allow a military spouse who holds a current out-of-state certification, license or registration to practice their occupation in New York State. Assembly Bills 3637 and 4394 are similar, granting military spouses with out-of-state licenses an equivalent license in New York.

“I am calling on my fellow members in the Assembly to join me as co-sponsors to bring this bill to the floor for a vote,” said Lupinacci. “The military spouses in New York State deserve a chance to join our workforce immediately so they can support their families; they shouldn’t be held back by petty licensing issues.”
