The Huntington Manor Fire Department responded to a transformer fire at the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station, located behind the Cheesecake Factory. Huntington Manor firefighters responded to the incident at 3:52 p.m., Monday, March 9. Under the command of Chief Frank McQuade with the support of Second Assistant Jon Hoffmann, about 50 firefighters responded with four engines, two heavy rescue trucks, a ladder truck and Fire Police.
The Melville Fire Department assisted at the scene with a Rapid Intervention Team while the Huntington Fire Department provided a standby engine.
Huntington Community First Aid Squad ambulance crews were also dispatched to the scene. Firefighters ventilated smoke and carbon monoxide from the Cheesecake Factory, Panera Bread and Bloomingdale’s stores which were evacuated.
Fire apparatus were on the scene until around 8:30 p.m.
