2nd Precinct Officer Shot In Huntington Station

Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for shooting a police officer in Huntington Station late last night. The suspect was apprehended at approximately 1:00 a.m.

Suffolk County Police responded to a 911 call at 11:59 p.m. reporting that a police officer had been shot near 11 Mercer Court in Huntington Station.

Police Officer Mark Collins, assigned to the Second Precinct Crime Section Gang Unit, was conducting a traffic stop while operating an unmarked police vehicle. There were four individuals in the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect confronted Officer Collins and shot him twice, once in the neck and once in the hip. Officer Collins was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via Suffolk County Police helicopter. Officer Collins is listed in serious but stable condition at this time.

After an intensive search for the suspect, he was located approximately one block from the traffic stop.

The investigation is continuing.
