Melville Man Killed in Motor Vehicle Crash

Stephen Puleo, 52, of Melville, was walking westbound on the Long Island Expressway, west of Exit 49, when he was struck by a U.S. Postal Service tractor trailer, driven by Russell A. Davenport of Northport at 10:30 p.m. Davenport, 62, who remained at the scene and attempted to assist the victim, was uninjured.

Puleo was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

A safety check of the tractor trailer was conducted at the scene and the investigation is continuing.
