Commack's History Team

Commack High School’s History Bowl Team recently participated in the New York City Regional Competition for the first time and took first place – undefeated with a 6-0 record. The team is now headed to the Nationals in Washington, D.C., in April.

Commack was the only undefeated team present, finishing with a 6-0 record by defeating Team “New Castle” 290-150 in the championship match. Team members include senior Sean Briody (Captain), senior Daniel Hosseinian, freshman Samuel Petruzzi, and freshman Muzaffer Tasoglu.

In the National History Bee individual competition held the same day, Sean placed third in the varsity division, and Samuel and Muzaffer placed first and second respectively in the Junior Varsity division. Later that week, in the U.S. History Bee individual competition held at Kings Park High School, Sean and Muzaffer placed first and second, respectively. These individual competition victories qualify each participant for the National Competition held in April.

Senior Jason Tropper placed first regionally in the U.S. Geography Olympiad individual buzzer competition held at Kings Park. Muzaffer and Samuel also qualified for Nationals in the Geography Olympiad through the qualifying test, and Jason also qualified for Nationals for the U.S. History Bee.
