Energy Press ConferenceOn Thursday, April 9, 2015, local legislators and sustainable energy advocates held a press conference in Huntington to discuss “Shining Cities” report, which outlines the benefits of solar energy and its impact on local economies.

Participating in the press conference was Assemblyman Andrew Raia, Assemblymen Chad Lupinacci, Town of Huntington Councilman Eugene Cook, Congressman Steve Israel and representatives of Environment New York, a statewide environmental advocacy organization.

“The alternative energy movement is finally reaching a point where there is a public demand for cost-effective and sustainable solar energy. As a member of the Assembly Committee on Environmental Conservation, I’m proud to support such impactful legislation. Projects like this go a long way toward saving our environment and potentially saving taxpayers thousands of dollars,” said Assemblyman Raia.

“Incorporating alternative energy sources like solar panels into our Long Island communities would provide free and clean energy and keep us on the cutting edge of technology that would improve our environment while boosting local economies,” said Lupinacci.

“New York State is already ranked 7th nationally in solar capabilities. I’m optimistic that we can continue to take advantage of a growing alternative energy market and invest in our future by introducing more sources to our Long Island communities,” concluded Lupinacci.

The Assemblymen said they plan to sponsor legislation that would provide school aid for the installation of solar, wind or geothermal energy sources because these structures would save taxpayer money by significantly cutting energy costs.
