Mock Press Conference

Assemblyman Andrew Raia and Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci hosted a mock press conference at the South Huntington Public Library on April 16, 2015. The event included over 100 students from 8 different Suffolk County high schools. Those with an interest in journalism, media and government operations were invited to attend and given the opportunity to ask questions of the assemblymen. Students were able to take pictures and interact as if it were a real press conference.

“Programs like these are critical for high school students considering what they want to study in college or even get a head start on a possible career in media with some on-the-job training,” said Raia. “While it was regretful that I was unable to be there in person, I think it added to the learning experience for these students. It shows that given today’s technology, news has advanced far beyond the traditional means. I thought the students in attendance did an exceptional job at this year’s mock press conference.”

“This is my second year co-hosting this mock press conference, and once again I’m impressed at the display of professionalism by these young men and women,” said Lupinacci. “Once again, I can say the future of journalism looks bright with these students asking tremendous questions. I want to thank everyone for coming and their extraordinary level of participation and interest was refreshing.”

The event included students from Brentwood High School, Brennen High School, Commack High School, Deer Park High School, John Glenn High School, High School West, North Babylon High School, Northport High School, and South Huntington High School.
