On Saturday afternoon, May 2, 2015, the Dix Hills Fire Department responded to a crash on Commack Road north of Euclid Avenue. Upon arrival firefighters found a two-car accident with a minivan on its side, and a woman trapped in the vehicle.
Dix Hills firefighters used heavy rescue tools to quickly extricate the victim by removing the windshield. The drivers of both vehicles suffered injuries, were treated on scene, and then transported by Dix Hills Rescue Squad ambulances to area hospitals.
Nearly 20 Dix Hills volunteer firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with two ambulances and three heavy rescue trucks. The crash closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of Commack Road for about 40 minutes.
