The Melville Fire Department was dispatched to a crash on the Northern State Parkway between the Round Swamp Road and Route 110 exits on Thursday, May 7. The crash caused a Ford Explorer traveling eastbound to flip over the center divider onto the westbound side. Melville firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” tools to cut off the roof and remove the driver. The driver was transported to the Nassau University Medical Center with non-life threatening injures by the Melville Rescue Squad. About 20 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with two heavy rescue trucks and three ambulances, under the direction of Second Assistant Chief Paul Mahler. Suffolk Police Emergency Service also assisted in the rescue.
