Suffolk County Police Officers assigned to Community Response Bureau and the Second Precinct gave Johnny Batkiewicz memories for a lifetime for both he and his family. While visiting Police Headquarters on May 13 during Police Week, Johnny, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy, was given a personal tour of Headquarters by Officers Sabrina Pitch, Claudia Delgado, Anthony Iadievaio and Nancy Ward and was even given an honorary ID card. Then on May 20, 2015 Officers Delgado and Iadevaio included Johnny and his family on a trip to Citi Field for Huntington youth, where they enjoyed watching the Mets play from a private box behind home plate, were introduced to several Mets players including Curtis Granderson and Anthony Recker and Mr. Met. Officers Delgado, Iadevaio, Pitch, and Ward were grateful for the opportunity to give this young man some happiness and memories to smile about.
Annually, the Suffolk County Police Department hosts Police Week at Police Headquarters during the month of May. During this event nearly 3,000 students from Suffolk County visited headquarters where they toured Communications and 911 section, the Police Museum, Static Displays of Police equipment which included Emergency Service, Crime Scene, Aviation, Marine Bureau and Highway Patrol, and observed a demonstration by the Motorcycle Unit, EVOC, Emergency Service, Aviation and Canine. Students were educated in police procedure and on the use of the equipment on display. Additionally , high school criminal justice students were educated through interactive blocks in the areas of Distracted Driving/ DWI and What To Do When Stopped By The Police.
