Starset Brings Space-Themed Music, Video to Vanderbilt Reichert Planetarium

Starset, a rock band from Columbus, Ohio, that plays science- and space-themed music in planetariums, will perform at the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum’s Charles and Helen Reichert Planetarium on Thursday, June 25, at 8:00 p.m.

Dustin Bates, the former lead singer with the group Downplay, formed Starset in 2013. He describes their debut album Transmissions as the “sonic interzone where fact, science and speculation collide.”

A singer, songwriter and accomplished musician, Bates also boasts some serious scientific credentials. A Ph.D. candidate in electrical engineering from Ohio University, Bates has done research for the U.S. Air Force and taught at the International Space University. His bandmates are Adam Gilbert, Brock Richards and Ron DeChant.

Over the past year Starset produced two hit singles and toured throughout the United States and Europe. Their third single, Halo, is currently climbing the rock charts.

Starset is also known for unique live shows, performed in planetariums with full-dome visual and sound capabilities. The Vanderbilt performance will be a rare opportunity to see the band in an intimate setting while fully immersed in spectacular visual content that is curated exclusively for Starset’s music.
