Raia
From the Office of Andrew Raia:
On June 16, 2015, Assemblyman Andrew Raia voted in favor of the Assembly’s pension forfeiture legislation, but urged the body to take up the more stringent bill he has sponsored since 2013. Under the bill which passed, elected officials who commit a felony while in office would be stripped of their pensions, but many other government officers are still exempt. While Raia applauds the step toward cracking down on corrupt career politicians, he urges the Democrats to hold all government officers to the highest possible standard.
“No government official who commits a crime deserves a taxpayer-funded state pension. It’s that simple,” said Raia. “While the bill we passed this evening takes a much-needed step toward addressing corruption on the electoral level, it fails to hold all government employees to the same high standard. I implore the Assembly Democrats to act on the pension forfeiture bill I’ve sponsored for years. Let’s restore the public trust at all levels of government and make honest, open government that respects our tax dollars the norm.”
