Lupinacci Pleased With Senate, House Action To Revise Education System

Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci recently commented on legislation before the United States Congress that would help reduce the burden of annual reading and math tests on the nation’s school districts and provide more leeway for individualized approaches in education.

“As a former South Huntington School Board Member, I understand the importance of local control in education. I have always been a vocal proponent for education policies that truly encourage teachers to help students understand, rather than teaching to a test,” Lupinacci said. “I am glad members of Congress in both houses also understand that universal policies such as frequent state-sanctioned testing are ineffective, treating students like statistics and discouraging individual teaching practices.

“I am proud to see New York’s Congressional Delegation in strong support of legislation which would allow school districts to craft student evaluation measures independently. Major decisions about our education should not be determined by bureaucrats in Washington, they should be made by the people who know our children best,” Lupinacci concluded.
