From the Office of Assemblyman Lupinacci
Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci announced that over $2 million was returned to 1,605 Long Island residents who were not paid the proper minimum wage during the first seven months of 2015.
“Hardworking men and women on Long Island deserve every penny they work for,” said Lupinacci. “New York State is a leader in the fight to end worker exploitation, and reimbursing over $18 million statewide is a perfect example of this.”
The New York State Department of Labor’s Working Protection Division has increased its efforts to combat worker exploitation in 2015 and is on pace to top the $30.2 million reimbursed to 27,000 workers in 2014. Long Island has the second-most workers reimbursed, behind New York City, with over $11 million to 7,598 workers.
“There is no room in New York State for any business that steals from its honest, hardworking employees. I will continue to monitor the Department of Labor’s Working Protection Division to make sure that New York State roots out any business exploiting its workers,” said Lupinacci.
