James Powers 2“It is with extreme pleasure and delight that we announce the selection of Jim Powers as the 2015 Matinecock District Good Deed Award recipient, reported Suffolk County Council President James Montalto at the June 23rd kick-off reception held at Honu Restaurant in Huntington.

Jim is the Director of Operations and Business Development for Bohler Engineering and has over 35 years of experience in the real estate development industry. As an architect, Jim’s diversification ranges from heading Chase Manhattan Bank’s architectural department, founding the firms Wall Street Collaborative/Powers Collins Architects, Franchise Consulting Services and JT Powers Development. He has led the business development efforts for professional firms Envision Architects, CSArch and Bohler Engineering. Jim is also currently an Adjunct Professor of Design and Construction Management at New York Institute of Technology.

Jim is involved in many professional organizations including the AIA, The Retail Network, Corenet, SCUP, ACIT, BOMA, CIBS, LIREG, SMPS, and ICSC to name a few, but his passion has always been his philanthropic endeavors. He has been on the boards of the Heckscher Museum, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Friends of NYIT, served as President of the Crab Meadow Golf Club and is currently the longest tenured President of the Townwide Fund of Huntington.

“It is the passion and commitment to helping others and working to make the Huntington community a better place to live work and play that led the Boy Scouts to select Jim”, said Montalto. The Good Deed Dinner will take place at the Northport Yacht Club on October 1st.

Nine years ago, Jim Powers joined the board of The Townwide Fund and has been the President of the Fund for the past six years. Under his leadership the Fund has had their best years providing vital grant money to over 25 different charities in Huntington, including the Boy Scouts. While reducing expenses and developing programs such as their Corporate Sponsorship Program, Payroll Deduction Plans, Coin Box program, the Goldstein Grants, their Planned Giving and Grants Programs, the Fund is set to be assisting the residents of the Town of Huntington for generations to come.

Residing in Huntington for the past 32 years, Jim is the proud father of four children, James, Jackson, Jarrett and Joanna and one granddaughter, Moira.
