Don’t miss this one! It’s free, so bring the entire family for an informative, fun-filled day! You’ll see firefighting and rescue demonstrations and safety exercises including stop, drop and roll, first aid and emergency treatment tips.
Residents will also learn about Dix Hills Fire Department safety and assistance programs including our Child Safety Car Seat program and free Community CPR courses. There will be free blood pressure checks, and you can learn how to operate a real fire hose.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see their Dix Hills volunteer firefighters battle a car fire, and use the powerful “Jaws of Life” heavy rescue tools to pry open a wrecked car. Information will also be available for those interested in joining our ranks as volunteer firefighters or emergency medical technicians.
“Open House is our most popular and well attended community event and it kicks off National Fire Prevention week,” said Chief Robert Fling, event chairman. “Nearly one thousand people pass through the firehouse. That kind of support from the community is fantastic.” It’s all about safety,” Chief Fling continued. “Everyone should know the skills we teach regardless of ages.”
Also available will be interactive activities, including tours of the firehouse, ambulances, and fire trucks, as well as free giveaways all day.
Open House at Dix Hills Fire Headquarters, 115 East Deer Park Road,
Sunday, October 4th, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
