Greenlawn FD 5Greenlawn FD 4The Greenlawn Fire Department recently dedicated their new ambulance to Hans Weiss, a dedicated volunteer firefighter who proudly served the Greenlawn community for over 57 years. Hans passed away last May at the age of 88, and was well respected for his dedication and service.

Hans was a Charter Member of the Greenlawn Rescue Squad in 1961, and later served as their Captain.  He also was Captain of the Engine Company.  Hans served as a Fire Commissioner and was awarded the status of Life Member of the Rescue Squad. He was recognized with several awards during his career for his dedicated service, including Rescue Person of the Year, and the Mark Levee Rescue Award.

Hans’ wife Kay, and their sons John, also a Greenlawn firefighter, and Glen, friends and fellow firefighters were on hand to dedicate the ambulance in Hans’ memory.  Chief Kurt Allen welcomed the guests and spoke about Hans and the contributions he made to the department, our country, and his family. Hans was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. Chaplain John McKenna concluded with a prayer and a blessing for the ambulance and firefighters.
