Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci and LiveOnNY continued their efforts to raise awareness of organ donation by hosting the first annual Donor Enrollment Day in Stony Brook. The event was held at the Stony Brook University Hospital and the Smith Haven Mall to provide residents with convenient access to organ donor enrollment. Lupinacci helped kick off the event by emphasizing the role organ donation plays in saving countless lives.
“New York State has the fewest registered organ donors in the country; only 25 percent of our residents are enrolled,” said Lupinacci, who recently announced plans to draft legislation requiring school districts to include organ donor and transplant information in health class curricula. “If we want enrollment numbers to increase, it’s important that we continue to get the word out about the lifesaving benefits that organ donation provides, and offer easy access to registration. I’m confident that Donor Enrollment Day is a great first step.
“One organ donation can save up to eight lives. It’s important that we do our part and help save others by becoming organ donors. I’m very thankful for the efforts made by LiveOnNY to make Donor Enrollment Day possible, and I look forward to continuing to advocate for such a good cause,” concluded Lupinacci.
