Greenlawn volunteer firefighter and U.S. Army veteran Albert Statton has organized a food collection drive for the
veterans in need at the Salvation Army Veterans Residence at the Northport VA Medical Center. Statton, a three-time Cancer survivor, was undergoing treatments at the Northport VA Medical Center and learned that the Salvation Army Food Pantry is currently severely short of food and other personal necessities.
There are presently over 50 families with young children at the residence that need assistance. The items from the Pantry are provided without cost to those that have nowhere to go or anyplace else to turn for help. Individuals that need immediate shelter are also assisted at the residence. The need for donated items is especially critical during the holiday season when food supplies are low and the veterans are often forgotten.
Items can be dropped off at the Greenlawn Fire Department headquarters at 23 Boulevard Avenue after a call to Al Statton at 631-835-3851. Al is also willing to pick up items if needed.
Donations in the form of Gift Cards will also be accepted to establishments where food can be purchased such as Costco, BJ’s Wholesale, Walmart, Target and area supermarkets. Gift Cards may be sent to:
Greenlawn Fire Department
Attn: Operation Enduring Care
23 Boulevard Avenue
Greenlawn, NY 11740
The Food Panty is accepting donations of non-perishable items including any of the items listed below:
Thank you for all your assistance in helping our veterans in need.
