Suffolk Police Combat Narcotics Epidemic in Suffolk Communities

Suffolk County Police Acting Commissioner Tim Sini, alongside Legislator Sarah Anker, today announced a new initiative aimed at cracking down on drug dealing in Suffolk County neighborhoods.

The initiative, fueled in part by residents’ complaints, will focus on combating drug houses in communities. As part of the initiative, the police department will be utilizing Special Operations Team (SOT) detectives in each precinct to work with residents to obtain information on who is dealing and where. Armed with that information, detectives will be executing more search warrants of drug houses and making felony arrests at those locations.

During the past several weeks since the initiative began, investigators have already executed nine search warrants and seized approximately $300,000 in cash, approximately 2,672 grams of cocaine and crack/cocaine, approximately 464 grams of heroin, 80 grams of oxycodone, seven guns, and drug paraphernalia.

“This new narcotics initiative will target residences where drug dealing is occurring.  Drug houses in our neighborhoods degrade our sense of community, public safety and quality of life,” said Suffolk County Police Acting Commissioner Tim Sini.  “We will target these locations by executing more search warrants and making arrests at those locations.”

“Working together with our law enforcement partners and sharing information is imperative to getting dangerous drugs off our streets and out of our communities,” said Legislator Sarah Anker. “If you see something, say something.”

As an example of Precinct Special Operations Team (SOT) :

Investigators seized approximately 730 grams of cocaine, 318 grams of heroin, 36 grams of oxycodone, and $200,000 in cash. Joseph Fearon, 40, a resident of the home was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, four counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree and two counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree. His son, Jasheme Fearon, 23, of 92 Wilson Ave., Middle Island, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, Criminal Impersonation 2nd Degree, a New York State Parole Warrant and a Bench Warrant.

They were held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and were scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on January 30, 2016.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
