Second Precinct Police Officer Matthew Funaro responded to a 4:45 p.m. call of a house fire at 120 Old
Winkle Point Road in Eatons Neck. When Officer Funaro arrived, he observed flames and heavy smoke emanating from the second floor of the home. The officer entered through a sliding door and located the resident, Helen Morris, on the first floor of the home in the living room. Officer Funaro, along with a Good Samaritan Joseph Cartelli 55 of Kings Park who was performing work in the home, carried Morris, who was in her wheelchair, outside to safety.
Eaton’s Neck Fire Department and Northport Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. Morris, 88, was transported to Huntington Hospital where she was treated for minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Arson Section detectives are investigating the cause of the fire. The investigation is continuing.
