Huntington Fire Department Battles House Fire on Fairview Street

Huntington Fire Department volunteers responded to a house fire on Fairview Street on Saturday, February 20, at about 4:25 pm. Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavy smoke condition on the second floor and discovered a fire in the walls and ceiling of a bedroom. Firefighters began an aggressive attack on the fire, and had the blaze under control within a half hour.

Fifty firefighters operated at the scene with two engines, heavy rescue truck and a ladder truck, under the command of Chief Jesse Cukro. The Huntington Manor Fire Department assisted with a Rapid Intervention Team, while the Halesite Fire Department provided standby coverage. The Huntington Community First Aid Squad was also on the scene for EMS support, with a Greenlawn Fire Department ambulance on standby. The fire appears to be electrical in nature, and is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Fire Marshal. There were no injuries reported.
