Depot Road is closed because of an accident between a Suffolk County Police SUV on a way to a call and a Jeep, at the corner of Depot Road and 13th Street in Huntington Station today April 1, 2016 around 10:50 am.
Witnesses from the Deli stated that the police car had its lights on and was heading westbound on 13th street, when the Jeep that was traveling north on Depot hit the police vehicle.
Police stated: The police officer, who had been responding to a call, had the lights and sirens activated in the vehicle. The 23-year-old female driver of the Cherokee was issued tickets for driving through a red light and distracted driving for driving while talking on a cell phone. The woman was treated at the scene by Huntington Community Ambulance and the officer was transported to Huntington for non-life threatening injuries.
Another neighbor who heard the accident came out of his house on Lynch Street, was Jim McGoldrick. He stated “that he has been asking and asking for months and months for Suffolk County Police Inspector Hatton and Supervisor Frank Petrone to help. We have drunks falling down on Depot road, we have school buses being passed by cars while picking up students, we have speeding, McGoldrick saying it is a mess and no one is doing their jobs. He asked a question, will it take a tragedy before people will do their jobs? ”
