Emergency responders from the Commack Fire Department, Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Suffolk Police responded to a crash on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at about 12:20 p.m. The driver of a Hyundai Elantra escaped with minor injuries after the car struck a tree, overturned and burst into flames on Verleye Avenue near Lefferts Avenue in Commack.
The 19-year-old woman was able to free herself from the wreckage before the car became fully engulfed in flames. The Commack Fire Department responded with three engines and a heavy rescue truck. Firefighters rapidly extinguished the fire and used foam to cover the spilled gasoline. The Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the patient to Huntington Hospital. Commack Fire Chief Andy Babajko was in command with the support of Assistant Chiefs Rich Myers, Paul Carnevale and Bobby Wilkins.
