Multiple Fires Keep Huntington Fire Department Busy on Saturday

Huntington Fire Department volunteers spent last Saturday, April 16, 2016 battling fires, starting with an afternoon fire in a landscaping truck, and then an evening house fire where firefighters rescued three dogs.

Firefighters first were alerted at 1:45 p.m. for a landscaping truck fire on Lloyd Point Drive in the Village of Lloyd Harbor. First arriving units found a landscaping box truck fully engulfed in flames on the driveway of a residence. Crews from two engines battled the blaze which totally consumed the truck. Units were under the command of Chief Jesse Cukro, who was assisted by Deputy Chiefs Rob Conroy and Brian Keane. The Lloyd Harbor Police Department and Town of Huntington Spill Response were also on the scene. There were no injuries reported.

Huntington Fire Department dispatch was later alerted to a residential structure fire at 7:58 p.m. on Clinton Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find the rear of the house was ablaze with extension to the attic and second floor, as well as a detached garage. Huntington firefighters began an aggressive attack on the blaze, and firefighters were able to rescue three dogs from the house and they are all doing well.

Huntington FD was assisted by the Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington Manor and Melville FD’s in battling the blaze. The Huntington Community First Aid Squad provided EMS support, with the Centerport FD standing by for coverage in Huntington.

Fifty firefighters using eight trucks had the fire under control within an hour, led by the command of Chief Jesse Cukro and operations support of Deputy Chiefs Rob Conroy, Brian Keane and Scott Dodge. There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal.
