Volunteers from the Huntington Manor Fire Department were dispatched to a basement fire at a home on Engelke Avenue in Huntington Station, Sunday, April 24, at about 5:30 pm. Forty firefighters using six trucks quickly contained the fire, under the command of Chief Frank McQuade, with Assistant Chiefs Mike DePasquale and Jon Hoffmann. The Melville Fire Department assisted at the scene with a Rapid Intervention Team, while the Greenlawn and Huntington Fire Departments handled standby coverage. The Huntington Community First Aid Squad was also at the scene for EMS support. The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating.
