Dawson Street Fire Claims 76 Year Old Man & Injuries His Sister

Suffolk County Police Homicide Section and Arson Section detectives are investigating a fire that killed a man in Huntington Station last night.

Second Precinct Police officers responded to a call of a house fire at 50 Dawson St., at approximately 9 p.m. Residents of the house, Henry Lindemann, 76, and his sister Diane Lindemann, 68, were inside. Diane Lindemann was able to escape.

Huntington Manor Firefighters entered the burning house during a search of the house, firefighters located one of the residents, an elderly man Henry Lindemann and removed him from the blazing home. Firefighters, EMT’s and Police Officer Angela Ferrara, a member of the Police Department’s MEDCAT (Medical Crisis Action Team) team immediately began advanced life support measures, placing an advanced airway for patient ventilation and administering intravenous fluids. Officer Ferrara continued advanced life support enroute to Huntington Hospital with EMT members of the Huntington Community First Aid Squad. Henry Lindemann died at the hospital a short time later. Diane Lindemann was also transported to Huntington Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. Detectives do not believe the fire is suspicious.

About 65 firefighters using eight trucks from Huntington Manor, Melville and Huntington fire departments battled the blaze which was controlled within 45 minutes, under the command of Huntington Manor Fire Chief Frank McQuade, supported by Assistant Chiefs Mike DePasquale, Jon Hoffmann and Chuck Brady. Ambulance crews from the Melville, Dix Hills and Halesite fire departments, as well as paramedics from the Town of Huntington Cyanide Response Team assisted at the scene. The Greenlawn FD handled standby coverage.The fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson and Homicide Squads, and Town of Huntington Fire Marshal.  The investigation is continuing.
