Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Huntington Station early this morning.
William Alvarez-Jovel was attempting to cross New York Avenue at West Hills Road when he was struck by a dark-colored sport utility vehicle at 1:51 a.m. The vehicle, possibly a GMC Jimmy or Nissan Pathfinder, sustained front-end damage and the operator fled the scene in the vehicle, northbound on New York Avenue.
Alvarez-Jovel, 41, of Huntington Station, was transported by Huntington Community First Aid Squad to Huntington Hospital where he was admitted with serious head and internal injuries.
Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
