CHAD LUPINACCI APPLAUDS PASSING OF ORGAN DONATION LEGISLATION

Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci  applauded his colleagues for passing legislation to expand the organ donation registry. Last week, the Assembly passed A.4990-B, which will allow persons 16 years of age or older to enroll in New York’s Donate Life Registry. While the final say is still up to the parent or guardian of the underage individual, this bill authorizes them the ability to give an anatomical gift.

“I commend my colleagues for being proactive and allowing our young adults the opportunity to save a life,” said Lupinacci. “This bill will bolster the number of individuals available to assist on the Donate Life registry, while still giving the parent or guardian of a young adult the final say in the matter. It is a win-win for all parties involved. I urge the Senate to follow our footsteps and take up this legislation.”

Organ donation holds a significant place in Lupinacci’s heart as his friend and predecessor, Assemblyman Jim Conte, was an advocate for Donate Life and the New York Organ Donation Registry and also a two-time kidney recipient. Only 25 percent of New Yorkers are currently registered donors, the second to lowest percentage in the country.
