Northport HS Named a NYS Scholar-Athlete School of Distinction 2016

districtNorthportlogo2Congratulations to the student-athletes, coaches and teachers at Northport High School, which was named one only of 32 high schools in New York State to earn the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s Scholar-Athlete School of Distinction Award for the 2015-16 school year. This is the second year that the school has earned this distinction.

The NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete School of Distinction Award is presented to those schools whose varsity teams have all achieved a cumulative GPA of 90 percent or higher. NYSPHSAA established the program during the 2002-03 school year to honor those schools that effectively emphasize the importance of academic success with their student-athletes. It also unites varsity coaches in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide honor in addition to the Scholar-Athlete Team Award, which was initiated in the 1991-92 school year.

Northport-East Northport Director of Physical Education, Athletics and Health Paul Klimuszko said, “Congratulations to all of the student-athletes, coaches and faculty that work hard every day to ensure that our students excel in both the classroom and on the athletic fields. Great job!”
