Lightning Strike Sparks Greenlawn House Fire

The Greenlawn Fire Department responded to a house fire believed to be caused by a lightning strike during the thunderstorms on Monday, July 25, 2016 at about 4:30 p.m. on Rosemont Court.

Firefighters arrived to find an active fire in the attic with flames coming out of the roof. Greenlawn firefighters began an aggressive attack on the fire and requested mutual aid assistance from the Dix Hills and Huntington Manor FD’s at the scene, with standby coverage provided by the Centerport and East Northport FD’s.

Over 60 volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel were on the scene with seven trucks and two ambulances, under the command of First Assistant Chief Michael Bellis and Third Assistant Chief Angelo Santomauro. The blaze was brought under control within 45 minutes, and there were no injuries reported. The Huntington Town Fire Marshal is investigating.
