Huntington Fire Department volunteers were alerted to a house fire on Prime Avenue, Monday, July 25, 2016 at about 4:30 p.m., as heavy thunderstorms swept through the area. Firefighters arrived to an active fire in the attic of the two-story home opposite Heckscher Park.
First arriving Engine 237 stretched a hose line to the attic and one to the front door as firefighters began an aggressive attack on the blaze. Second due Truck 2312 sent the ladder to the roof to vent the fire. They were followed by Engine 234 and Rescue 235.
Crews quickly knocked down the blaze, and overhauled the exterior and second floor ceilings to check for extension of the fire. The Halesite, Huntington Manor and Cold Spring Harbor fire departments assisted at the scene with additional crews and equipment. The Huntington Community First Aid Squad was also responded with an ambulance crew.
About 60 firefighters and EMS personnel were on the scene with nine trucks, under the command of Second Deputy Chief Brian Keane, with operations handled by Third Deputy Chief Scott Dodge. There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Fire Marshal.
