Northport Musicians Tapped for Anthems at NFL & MLB Games

Congratulations to the Northport High School Tour Choir and the Northport High School Tiger Marching Band, Flagline and Tigerettes, as both ensembles have been selected to perform the National Anthem at two separate professional sporting events in the weeks to come.

The Tour Choir has been invited back to MetLife Stadium to perform the National Anthem on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016 prior to the New York Jets vs. New York Giants preseason football game. Most of the more than 110 grade 7-12 students who participated in this year’s high school summer choir clinic are expected to perform. The group also performed the Anthem at MetLife Stadium last year.

“I am really excited to return to MetLife Stadium,” said Northport High School senior Tess Robinson. “It was such a rewarding experience. It is a great way to kick off my senior year”

“We continue to be humbled the choir’s dedication to singing the National Anthem in representation of our great country,” said Choir Co-Director Ellen McCarthy.

Not to be outdone, Northport High School’s Tiger Marching Band, Flagline and Tigerettes have been selected will perform the Anthem at Citi Field on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 to kick of the New York Mets game against the Phillies.

“On behalf of the entire music department I congratulate these students and all of the music teachers who have played a hand in their success,” said Dr. Izzet Mergen, Northport-East Northport Director of Fine and Performing Arts. “We are proud to have them perform live at two major sporting events before audiences of tens of thousands of fans. These are opportunities of a lifetime and memories that they will cherish forever.”
