Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a shooting that killed one man and injured another in Huntington Station early this morning, Shotspotter was activated too.
Antoine Butts-Miller 18 year old was standing outside 233 5th Ave. with a large group of people when he and another man were shot at approximately 3:30 a.m.
Butts-Miller, 18, of Huntington Station, was taken by Huntington Community First Aid Squad to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other victim, a 31-year-old male, was also taken to an area hospital where he was treated for a head wound and released.
This shooting happened right in front of Alfred Walker Park. Would the new Park Rangers have been able to stop this? One member of the neighborhood told theHuntingtonian “I went by here at 1am last night. The police should have shutdown that party, it was out of control at 1am”. It is always a much better policy to be proactive than reactive, many in the community have stated. One community member stated we need more police. “We send the county $115,000,000 in police revenue yet we receive back approximately $45-$55 million back in services/coverage.” Community members believe we should have more police to be proactive, as we are basically receiving 50% of our police dollars. Fair is fair, they stated, and enough is enough. They want to know where Frank Petrone, and Steve Bellone are and what the hell they are going to do about this?
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6394 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
