Discussion Forum, Workshop & Sunday Service Led by
Noted Author, Educator, Visionary and Activist Chris Crass
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington (UUFH) is hosting a first-of-its kind 3-day weekend of inspirational learning and dialogue called LEARN—Let’s End All Racism Now, Friday, September 30, 2016 – Sunday, October 2, 2016. Led by noted author, educator, visionary and activist Chris Crass, the weekend, which will consist of a discussion forum, an anti-racism workshop and a Sunday service, is in response to news headlines demonstrating the enduring reality of institutional racism in our country and an ongoing movement within Unitarian Universalist congregations across the United States to commit to the struggle for racial justice.
“Our goal is to energize, inspire and activate more people to understand and rise above the current racial challenges on Long Island and in our world,” says Steve Burby, UUFH Social Justice Committee co-chair and organizer of the event. “With mass incarceration, mass deportation and anti-Muslim sentiment rampant and economic inequality a reality today, people of all backgrounds are starting to grasp the depth of these issues. They are looking for ways to come together to support an effective social justice movement with hopes of building the ‘Beloved Community’ spoken of by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It’s going to be an important, amazing and empowering weekend.”
Reverend Jude Geiger, minister of the UUFH, adds: “The movement for civil rights is as pressing today as it ever was. People of good will and good faith need to deepen our connections and our commitments to building the Beloved Community.”
All are welcome to one, two or three days of the LEARN Weekend with Chris Crass. Pre-registration and a fee is required for the all-day workshop on Saturday. Financial aid is available.
