Molloy College and its Writer-in-Residence, Barbara Novack, will be hosting a Poetry Event featuring Richard Jeffrey Newman and Barbara Novack on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at 3 pm in the Reception Room, Kellenberg Hall, on Molloy College’s Rockville Centre campus. This event is free and open to the public. An open reading will follow the features.
Richard Jeffrey Newman is Professor of English at Nassau Community College, where he also was coordinator of the Creative Writing Project. He hosts First Tuesdays, a reading series in Queens, NY, and has served as Literary Arts Director of New York City’s Persian Arts Festival. His writing explores the impact of feminism on his life, as well as the impact of classical Persian poetry on our contemporary lives. His work has appeared in a wide range of journals. Four books of his translations of classical Persian poetry and two of his own poetry have been published.
Barbara Novack is Writer-in-Residence at Molloy College and a member of the English Department. Her recent books include Something Like Life, nominated for a Paterson Poetry Prize and a New Mexico Book Award; J.W. Valentine, nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and a PEN/Robert W. Bingham Award for Debut Fiction and finalist for Pushcart Press’s Editor’s Book Award; and Do Houses Dream? finalist for the Blue Light Press 2015 Poetry Prize. At this reading she will donate 25% of all sales of her books to the Reverend Thomas Catania Memorial Scholarship for English Majors.
The Poetry Events series at Molloy College was founded by Barbara Novack in conjunction with the English Department. The aim of the series is to bring contemporary poetry to a wider audience.
