The Town of Huntington Fire Chiefs’ Council recently presented the Chief Todd Sammis Firefighter of the Year Award to Ex-Chief Jack Italiano Jr. of the Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department. Chief Italiano was recognized for his heroic actions at a motor vehicle accident involving an overturned car in the woods with a victim trapped that occurred in August 2015.
Ex-Chief Italiano received the award with a standing ovation at the Council’s annual installation dinner. Pictured from left, are Council President John McDonough, Jack Italiano, Secretary Chris Ingwersen of Cold Spring Harbor, Second Vice President Chuck Brady of Huntington Manor, Treasurer Gary Hontz of Eaton’s Neck, and First Vice President Dan McConnell of Halesite. Ex-Chief Italiano is a 35-year veteran of the fire service and served as Chief of the Cold Spring Harbor FD in 1991. He is also a former member of the Huntington and Huntington Manor FD’s.
