This retrospective explores the life and music career of one of America’s most original and celebrated figures. George Gershwin started, in his youth, as a song-plugger on Tin Pan Alley. While he continued to gain success writing popular music for the stage and Hollywood, he also strived to make his mark as a serious composer. Yamaha Piano Artist, Alexander Wu’s performance and commentary bring to life a unique collection of the composer’s works from his earlier piano pieces to his Broadway songs and serious works, including Rhapsody in Blue. The Washington Post has praised Wu for his “exuberant etudes on Gershwin songs.” Open to all. Call 631-427-5165 to register.
