On Saturday, December 17, 2016, at about 1:00 PM, Brentwood troopers were dispatched to a report of
a motor vehicle accident on the eastbound Northern State Parkway east of exit 41(Wolf Hill Road) along with the Dix Hills Fire Department. Dix Hills firefighters used heavy rescue extrication tools to remove the two occupants trapped in an overturned Jeep that struck a tree.
Investigation revealed that Thomas Hardy, age 22, of East Northport, NY, was operating a 1997 Jeep Cherokee when he lost control of the vehicle. Mr. Hardy exited the roadway onto the center median, where he struck a guide rail and overturned into a tree. Mr. Hardy, along with his only passenger, were transported to Huntington Hospital by Dix Hills Resque Squad, where he was later pronounced deceased. The passenger in the vehicle was treated for his injuries and is in stable condition.
About 40 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with five trucks, three ambulances, and paramedic responder units, under the direction of Third Assistant Chief Joe Williamson.
The State Police request anyone who witnessed the accident to call (631) 756-3300.
