The Boxcar Lilies is an Americana trio from Massachusetts who have been receiving accolades and wowing audiences with their vocal harmonies and signature mix of folk, country, and bluegrass-tinged Americana music since forming in 2009. Accompanying themselves on guitar, electric bass, washboard and cajon, Jenny Goodspeed, Stephanie Marshall and Susan Cattaneo have brought their warm sound and genuine and charming stage presence to venues and festivals up and down the Eastern seaboard and beyond.
Falcon Ridge Folk Festival attendees voted the trio “Most Wanted to Return” artists following the festival’s annual Emerging Artists Showcase in 2013, while The Boxcar Lilies also secured coveted official showcases at Folk Alliance International and Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) conferences and impressed FMSH concertgoers during a previous appearance here.
Low Lily, a Vermont-based string and vocal trio who explore the roots and branches of American folk music with traditional influences and modern inspiration, weave together a unique brand of acoustic music. Liz Simmons (vocals and guitar) Flynn Cohen (vocals, guitar, and mandolin) and Lissa Schneckenburger (vocals and fiddle) have delved into traditional music styles — ranging from bluegrass to Irish, Scottish, New England, and old time Appalachian sounds – and combines them with their own composition skills and inventive arrangements to create music that is rooted, yet contemporary. As PopMatters notes, Low Lily has “an incredible knack for putting a little pop twist on a traditional folk/Americana sound.”
“House Carpenter,” the opening track on the trio’s recent self-titled album, debuted as the most-played song on the international Folk DJ charts. This will be Low Lily’s first Long Island concert appearance.
Now in its 48th year, the Folk Music Society of Huntington presents two monthly concert series, a monthly folk jam, and an annual folk festival in conjunction with the Huntington Arts Council.
