Residents of the Northport-East Northport School District Invited to Proposed Bond Referendum

districtNorthportlogo1Residents of the Northport-East Northport School District are invited to a community forum on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 to learn about the proposed bond referendum. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will held at the William J. Brosnan School, located at 158 Laurel Avenue in Northport.

              The district will also continue its series of building tours for residents so that they can learn about the current conditions of the schools and the improvements proposed through the bond. A tour of the William J. Brosnan School is set for Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017 tours will be provided at Northport Middle School at 6:30 p.m., Norwood Avenue Elementary School at 7:30 p.m. and Ocean Avenue at 8 p.m.

              “With the vote scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 the district wants to provide residents with as much information as possible so that the community can make an informed choice at the polls,” said Superintendent of Schools Robert Banzer.

              The plan, totaling approximately $39.8 million, addresses improvements to basic building infrastructure items that are nearing the end of their useful life, as well as improved and modernized instructional spaces to facilitate improved instruction. The proposal also includes renovations to the district’s physical education and athletic facilities for student and community use, as well as the addition of security vestibules at each building to increase student and staff safety.  

              All information related to the bond proposal can be found on the district’s website, www.northport.k12.ny.us. The vote will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017. Polls will be open from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. at Fifth Avenue, Dickinson Avenue and William J. Brosnan Schools.
